Tucson, Ariz. ?- The University of Arizona women’s basketball team held its first intra-squad practice of the season on Saturday in McKale Center, using two 10-minute scrimmages to combine for 149 team points.
The Wildcats (Blue Team) faced off against a practice squad (White Team) after an hour and a half long workout session. Junior center Beatrice Bofia led Arizona with eight points and two rebounds overall.
Players were scored based on a positive-negative point system. Positive points were given for field goals made (+2), rebounds (+2 offensive, +1 defensive), assists (+1), steals (+2), and charges taken (+3). Negative points were distributed for missed field goals (-2), fouls (-2), and turnovers (-2).
Junior Ashley Whisonant posted a +4 overall point total in the first scrimmage, and freshman Rheya Neabors and sophomore Amina Njonkou finished with +2 point totals. In the second game, Beatrice Bofia finished with a +5 point total and Njonkou posted +2 points.
Arizona will host its annual Red & Blue Game on Wednesday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. in McKale Center. The Wildcats open the 2006-07 at home against Nicholls State on Tuesday, Nov. 14.
