Dunn’s work with UA running backs the past two seasons has helped establish a consistent running game to augment a new passing attack. His coaching style and knowledge of college football has meshed neatly with coordinator Mike Canales’ game strategies and play calling.
Dunn, 37, brings a background with coaching staff leadership responsibilities at the Pac-10 level. He has coached on both sides of the ball and has the insight of a former heralded collegiate player, and professional football experience.
His senior charges last year, Mike Bell and Gilbert Harris, positioned themselves for a professional future after their two years of work in Dunn’s system. Bell recorded his third consecutive 900-yard year and just missed the 1,000-yard mark after an injury shortened his final game. Harris was the club’s top pass catcher out of the backfield and no less a threat carrying the ball.
Dunn’s work in 2006 will focus on a pair of lettermen with experience ?- junior tailback Chris Henry and sophomore fullback Brandon Lopez ?- a group of young players with a year of apprenticeship, plus an incoming group of true freshmen.
