Television and Radio Station Tours

Television and Radio Station Tours

How does a TV show find your television?   How does a song find a radio?  What happens when you push the “on” button that you’ve never seen before?   Now, students just like you are discovering the answers to these questions during a special tour offered on the campus of The University of Arizona.

During this tour, students visit a real TV studio and radio station.  On your tour you can peak in the windows of our two radio stations, KUAT-FM and KUAZ, to observe our news reporters and announcers in action.

The tour will take you to the main studio of KUAT, channel six, to see where a local television show, Arizona Illustrated, is taped. You’ll learn how news people know what to say, how the lights can make you look different, and what every camera operator needs to know.  From there you’ll visit the production booth to learn how the director controls everything.  Finally, you’ll stop in Master Control to see how a television station puts it all together and sends it out to your TV.

The tour can take anywhere from half an hour to 45 minutes to complete.  If the group is really interested in a particular area or have a lot of questions the tour then tends to run to the 45 minute mark, but it usually will not take any longer than that.

Tours can begin anytime between 9 a.m. and noon, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. If you’re interested, ask your teacher to contact KUAT for more information.
