Adams named all-region by USBWA; Williams a collegeinsider.com freshman All-American
TUCSON, Ariz. ?- University of Arizona men’s basketball players Hassan Adams and Marcus Williams each were honored with postseason accolades on Tuesday.
Adams was named to the United States Basketball Writers Association all-District IX team, while Williams was freshman All-America selection by collegeinsider.com.
Adams, a 6-foot-4, 220-pound senior guard from Los Angeles, Calif., was one of 11 players selected to the District IX team after averaging 17.3 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.9 assists through 29 games. He shoots 47.0 percent from the field (215-of-457) and leads all Pac-10 players with an average of 2.7 steals per game. Adams has scored in double figures 25 times In 2005-06, including 12 games with 20 or more points. He received first-team all-Pac-10 honors yesterday.
Williams, a 6-foot-7, 205-pound freshman forward from Seattle, Wash., was one of 25 student-athletes named to the collegeinsider.com freshman All-America team after a debut season that saw him average 12.4 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game. A starter in 21 of 29 appearances, Williams shot 47.9 percent (138-of-288) from the field and a team-leading 44.4 percent (24-of-54) from three-point range. He led all Pac-10 freshmen with his 12.4 ppg average and upped his per-game averages to 13.7 points and 5.6 rebounds in conference play. He earned Pac-10 all-Freshman kudos yesterday.
Arizona (18-11, 11-7 Pac-10) will next be in action on Thursday, March 9, at the 2006 Pacific Life Pac-10 Tournament in Los Angeles. The Wildcats open play in the quarterfinals against Stanford. Tip-off is scheduled for 12:20 p.m. PST and can be seen nationally on Fox Sports Net.
