Women’s Golfers Earn Honorable Mention All-Pac-10 Honors
Three Wildcat freshmen named honorable mention all-conference selection
TUCSON, Ariz. ?- A trio of University of Arizona freshmen women’s golfers earned honorable mention All-Conference honors, thePac-10 released Thursday.
Lauren Espinosa, Amanda Wilson and Adriana Zwanck received the honors after leading Arizona in nearly ever statistical category in 2005-06.
In only four months, Zwanck posted a 74.16 stroke average, tops on the team, including a team-leading 210 as the low-tournament score. She is also the only Arizona women’s golfer to claim an individual title, winning back-to-back tournaments in March.
Wilson, meanwhile, shot the lowest score in a single round this season, a 68 at the Las Vegas Showdown, Oct.31-Nov.2, 2005. Senior Cassandra Kirkland and Zwanck join her as the only Wildcats to do so. Wilson also recorded a team-high four top-20 finishes.
Espinosa has carded six rounds of golf with a score of par or better, tied with Zwanck for best on the team, and is the only Wildcat to finish in the top 10 in three tournaments.
“I am very pleased about the way that the freshmen have progressed this season,” head coach Greg Allen said. “Any time you depend on freshmen as heavily as we have you are going to have some ups and downs. I think we have made great progress and I am anxious to see what the future brings for us.”
The freshmen will lead the Wildcats to on of three NCAA Regionals, May 11-13. The location is to be announced.
