TUCSON, Ariz. - Arizona gymnast Karin Wurm has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District VIII at-large second team for her academic and athletic performances in her two seasons as a Wildcat.
Wurm, who just finished her sophomore season, carries a 3.93 grade point average as a pre-business major. She was named to the Pac-10 All-Academic first team this past season, and also earned Pac-10 Gymnast of the Week for March 13-19. Additionally, Wurm earned a berth as an individual competitor in the all-around at the 2006 NCAA National Championships.
A native of Landenberg, Pa., Wurm was a key element to the Wildcats’ success this past season. She was the only member of the squad to compete as an all-arounder in every meet of the season. She shared third-place honors at the NCAA North Central Regional on April 8, qualifying her for nationals. On the year, she placed in the Top-5 32 times, including three vault titles, one on bars, four on floor and one in the all-around.
Wurm is one of two Arizona female athletes to be named to the All-District VIII teams. Whitney Myers, the 2006 Pac-10 Swimmer of the Year, was named to the first team.
Two 10-member squads are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) in each district. CoSIDA District VIII is comprised of the states of Alaska, California, Idaho, Hawaii, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington, as well as the Canadian province of British Columbia.
In order to be eligible for the team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, must be a starter or important reserve and must be in at least their second season of competition at their current school.
The at-large team consists of athletes in the sports of swimming and diving, gymnastics, tennis, golf, water polo, field hockey, skiing, bowling and crew.
