TUCSON--New players officially reported today to herald the start of the 2006 University of Arizona football camp.
A total of 33 players reported to the football offices, checked with equipment personnel for proper fitting and with the training staff for other protective gear, plus physical examinations were held for recruited walk-ons who had not been on campus for voluntary summer workouts.
The team's veterans report Wednesday, with the first drills of camp scheduled for Thursday evening.
The new players will meet with head coach Mike Stoops and staff in an evening meeting Tuesday to outline team policies and procedures.
Scholarship members of the incoming class, as well as some returnees, have been taking coursework in the first or second session of UA's summer school to establish an early academic regimen for 2006.
The Cats will hold camp at UA's nearby Rincon Vista practice facility until mid August. Fall classes and the regular-season practice schedule begin Aug. 21.
