Move to ESPN Deportes will allow for greater amount of programming
Beginning with this Thursday’s men’s basketball game versus Washington State, University of Arizona Spanish radio broadcasts will air through its new Spanish flagship KTKT AM990 ESPN Deportes, announced today by HOST/Wildcat Sports Properties General Manager Brent A. Seebohm.
The broadcast team of play-by-play announcer Francisco Romero, in his eighth year, and color analyst Luis Hernandez will continue. Previous flagship KQTL 1210AM, which aired 25 total home football and men’s basketball broadcasts for the past two seasons, has undergone a format and local ownership change.
The new partnership between HOST and Lotus Radio is a four-year deal through June 2011 that will more than double the game broadcasts programming in the 2007-08 sports year. ESPN Deportes will now carry all football games, the majority of men’s basketball games, and select home games of baseball, softball, and women’s basketball.
All broadcasts will include an expanded pre- and post-game show. Beginning in August, a new weekly Wildcat sports talk show will air on an as yet determined day and time to promote UA Athletics. Additionally, Lotus will run a strong promotional schedule on KTKT, and sister station KCMT 102.1FM La Caliente, to generate awareness among listeners.
“This is a remarkable advancement in our effort to expand our Hispanic marketing and broadcasting,” said Brent A. Seebohm, UA’s HOST representative on campus. “We are appreciative for the Lotus staff enthusiasm with this new partnership. KTKT is a strong station, with a valuable ESPN branding tie, and a perfect format for our Wildcat listeners. We’re also excited to begin streaming these broadcasts on ArizonaAthletics.com next year.”
