TUCSON, Ariz. ?C The University of Arizona menˇ?s golf team carded an 11-under-par 565 Monday and stands in first place at the Wolf Pack Classic in Reno, Nev.
With four golfers at par or better, Arizona posted rounds of 281 (-7) and 284 (-4) en route to a two-round total of 565 (-11). The UA lineup tallied six under par rounds in the 36 holes played Monday, which helped the Wildcats build a four-stroke lead in the field of 19 teams. Iowa State (569), Kansas State (578), Utah (578) and New Mexico State (580) rounded out the top-five places.
A pair of Wildcats, freshman Tarquin MacManus and junior Tyler Neal, are tied for second place individually after both posted identical scores of 69 and 71 to stand at four-under 140. The opening-round 69s were the career low rounds for both players, while the four-under 140 tally is the low 36-hole tally for Neal.
Freshman Andrew Kelly and senior Trey Denton are tied for 13th place at one-under 143. Kelly shot rounds of 74 and 69, while Denton posted rounds of 70 and 73. Senior Creighton Honeck is tied for 36th place at three-over 147.
The Wolf Pack Classic is being contested at Wolf Run Golf Club, a par 72, 7,100-yard layout. The event concludes tomorrow.
