Williams earns first-team kudos
TUCSON, Ariz. ?- Three University of Arizona men’s basketball players were named all-district by the National Association of Basketball Coaches, the organization announced Wednesday.
Marcus Williams, Ivan Radenovic and Chase Budinger were selected NABC all-District 15 in voting done by member coaches. Williams was a first-team selection, while Radenovic and Budinger were second-team honorees.
Williams, a 6-foot-7, 205-pound sophomore forward from Seattle, Wash., was one of five players selected to the District 15 first team by averaging 16.8 points, 7.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists through 26 games. He shoots 51.2 percent from the field (173-of-338) and averages of 1.1 steals per game. Williams has scored in double figures 22 times in 2006-07, including a team-leading 10 games with 20 or more points. It is the first time Williams has been recognized by the NABC.
Radenovic, a 6-foot-10, 240-pound senior forward from Belgrade, Serbia, was one of five student-athletes tabbed to the District 15 second team after averaging 14.6 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game in 27 appearances. Radenovic shoots 50.2 percent (127-of-253) from the field and a team-leading 86.1 percent (124-of-144) from the free throw line. He leads Arizona with four double-doubles this year and has scored in double figures 23 times. It is the first time that Radenovic has been honored by the NABC.
Budinger, a 6-foot-7, 205-pound freshman forward from Encinitas, Calif., was one of five players named to the District 15 second team after averaging 16.1 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game in 27 appearances. Budinger shoots 50.2 percent (158-of-315) from the field and a leads the team with 43 5 three-point field goals (.368 percentage). He has 23 double-figure scoring games to his credit in 2006-07 and has registered four double-doubles. It is the first time that Budinger has been honored by the NABC.
Arizona (18-9, 9-7 Pac-10) will next be in action on Thursday, March 1, at California. The game will tip-off at 7:30 p.m. PST and will be televised by FSN Arizona.
