Sophomore earns regional kudos
TUCSON, Ariz. ?- University of Arizona men’s basketball player Marcus Williams was named to the 2007 United States Basketball Writers Association all-District 9 team, the organization announced Tuesday.
Williams was one of 10 players named to the District 9 squad, which was voted on by USBWA members in California, Oregon, Washington, Hawaii, Arizona and Alaska.
Williams, a 6-foot-7, 205-pound sophomore forward from Seattle, Wash., was one of six Pac-10 players selected to the team after averaging 16.9 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists through 28 games. He shoots 50.7 percent from the field (186-of-367) and averages of 1.1 steals per game. Williams has scored in double figures 24 times in 2006-07, including a team-leading 11 games with 20 or more points. Williams was named all-Pac-10 Conference yesterday.
Arizona (20-9, 11-7 Pac-10) will next be in action on Thursday, March 8, in the quarterfinals of the 2007 Pacific Life Pac-10 Tournament in Los Angeles against Oregon. The game is scheduled to tip off at 12:20 p.m. PST and can be seen nationally on Fox Sports Net.
