CHICAGO--University of Arizona senior cornerback Antoine Cason has been named to the the Playboy College All-America Football Team, one of the sporting world's early measures of the nation's top players.
This is the 51st year that Playboy magazine has named a preseason All-America team, a tradition that has included such players as Dan Marino, John Elway, Troy Aikman and Peyton Manning, to name a few quarterbacks, and coaches that span the decades from Alabama's Paul "Bear" Bryant to last year's pick, Pete Carroll of Southern California.
The entire team was not released by the publication, but Playboy offices have contacted Cason to complete travel plans for the magazine's All-America weekend this May at a resort in the Phoenix area. The magazine will conduct a photo shoot for the preview publication later this summer plus film segments for a nationally syndicated College Football Preview show to air shortly before the season begins.
Arizona's most recent Playboy All-America selection was junior tailback Clarence Farmer in 2002, following the year when he led the Pac-10 in rushing with 1,229 yards. He was one of three UA offensive players picked for the squads over the years, along with receiver Theopolis Bell and center Joe Tofflemire.
A week ago Cason was named to the Ronnie Lott Trophy watch list and is a top contender for the Jim Thorpe Award. He was a first-team All-Pacific-10 Conference player in 2006 and has played all but five scrimmage snaps since first starting as a true freshman for UA in 2004.
This spring he has been competing for the UA track and field team as a member of sprint relays as well as focus on football spring drills, which conclude this weekend with the Spring Game on Saturday. He is a president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Board for the athletic department.
