Malibu , Calif. ?C The Arizona volleyball team fell to host Pepperdine in three games in the final match of the Asics Classic on Saturday night in the Firestone Fieldhouse.? Game scores were 30-18, 30-27 and 30-25, as the Wildcats drop to 4-2 on the season.

Arizona hit .108 (33-20-120) on the night, and finished with eight team blocks.? The Waves posted a .242 (49-20-120) hitting percentage and had seven team blocks.

Individually for Arizona, junior Randy Goodenough led the way with a team-high 10 kills and eight digs.? Junior Brooke Buringrud and freshman Tiffany Owens each had five kills apiece, and freshman Paige Weber finished with 27 assists.

Goodenough and Weber were named to the Asics Classic All-Tournament Team.

Julie Rubenstein led Pepperdine with a match-high 16 kills to go with 12 digs.

Arizona struggled out of the gate in game one, as Pepperdine rushed out to a 12-3 lead.? The Wildcats responded with a 7-1 scoring run to cut the deficit to 13-10, but the Waves countered with a 6-2 spurt of their own to go up 19-12.? Arizona could not catch Pepperdine down the stretch and finished the game hitting -.026 (8-9-38).

The Wildcats battled Pepperdine tough in game two behind a .250 hitting percentage (17-5-48).? Arizona was tied with the Waves at 25-25, and trailed 27-26, but couldnˇ?t take a lead down the stretch, falling 30-27.

In the third game, Arizona fell behind 5-0 which turned into a 10-2 Pepperdine lead, and couldnˇ?t close the game the rest of the way.? The Wildcats used a 9-3 run to cut the deficit to 13-11, but a UA service error and two service aces by the Waves switched up the momentum.? Pepperdine cruised down the stretch, as Arizona would get no closer than four points to the Waves.

Arizona will next travel to Atlanta for the Regency Suites Classic hosted by Georgia Tech, Friday-Saturday, Sept. 7-8.? The Wildcats will take on Kentucky on Friday and Western Carolina and the Yellow Jackets on Saturday.
