Two-day event opens college golfˇ?s spring season

TUCSON , Ariz. ? ?C ?The University of Arizona menˇ?s golf team will open its 2008 spring season by hosting the PING-Arizona Intercollegiate, Jan. 28-29, at Arizona National Golf Club.? It is the first college golf event of the spring season.

One of the finest college golf events in the nation, the 2008 PING-Arizona Intercollegiate is a 54-hole event, which will be contested at Arizona National, a par 71, 6,900-yard layout. Thirty-six holes will be played on Monday, Jan. 28 with continuous play scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. MST. The final 18 holes will start at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 31.

Two of the teams in the field finished the fall season ranked in the (Nov. 7) GCAA/Nike Top-25 Coaches Poll, which includes (ranking):? Brigham Young, California, UC-Irvine, East Tennessee State, Georgia Southern, Long Beach State, Nevada, New Mexico, San Diego State, Tennessee (23), Texas, UCLA (4), UNLV, Washington and host Arizona (two squads).

The Wildcats collected one team win in five fall events.
