Arizona Athletics would like to remind its fans of the new Arizona state law regarding license plate frames that will go into effect beginning January 1, 2009.

The state of Arizona will begin enforcing a law that prohibits motor vehicle drivers from using license plate holders that partially or fully cover the "ARIZONA" on the top of the plate. Drivers found in violation of this law are subject to a $130 traffic ticket. The law can be read in its entirety here.

For reference, the state of Arizona only requires a license plate on the rear of the car. Examples of the license plates currently offered by the Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles can be found here.

The Universities' licensing department, licensees and bookstores are aware of this change in law and are working towards the production of new collegiate license plate frames that will be compliant with the new state law. Should anyone have specific questions related to this matter, please email licensing@arizona.edu.

The University of Arizona thanks all fans for their continued support.
