AUSTIN, Texas – Sophomore Ben Grado led Arizona in the men's 3-meter dive on day two of the 2009 NCAA Zone E Diving Regionals, being held at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swim Center, on the campus of the University of Texas.
Grado registered a score of 381.20 in the preliminary round of the event to advance to the finals, before placing second with a score of 761.55. Yesterday, Grado placed second in the 1-meter dive.
Freshman Ainsley Oliver finished 10th in the women’s one-meter event with an overall score of 487.15.
Micky Benedetti of Arizona State captured the title in the men's 3-meter springboard, while Hawaii's Emma Friesen captured her second zone championship in as many days, winning the women's 1-meter event. Benedetti, the defending zone champion on 3-meters, registered a score of 807.95.
The Zone E meet wraps up Saturday with the men's and women's platform events. At the conclusion of the meet, this year's NCAA qualifiers (six men and seven women) will be announced.
