TUCSON, Ariz. - University of Arizona men's basketball players Jordan Hill and Chase Budinger were named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches all-district team, it was released by the organization recently.
Hill, a first-team selection, and Budinger, a second-team pick, were among 10 players named to the District 20 team. It is the first time Hill has been recognized by the coaches association, while Budinger was also a second-team selection in 2006-07.
Hill, a 6-foot-10, 235-pound, junior forward from Atlanta, Ga., is averaging 18.5 points, 11.0 rebounds and 1.8 blocked shots per game in 31 appearances. Hill shoots 54.8 percent (234-of-427) from the field and leads the Pac-10 with 18 double-doubles. He's scored in double figures a team-leading 30 times this year, including a high of 30 on Jan. 24 vs. Houston, and posted 19 double-figure rebounding games with a high of 22 on Nov. 18 vs. UAB. He has 14 20-point and six 15-rebound games to his credit this season.
Budinger, a 6-foot-7, 218-pound junior forward from Encinitas, Calif., averages 17.9 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game in 32 appearances. Budinger shoots 47.2 percent (196-of-415) from the field and 41.0 percent (64-of-156) from three-point range. He ranks among the Pac-10 leaders in scoring, rebounding, assists, steals (1.4 spg), free throw percentage (.818), three-point field goals made (2.0 per game), assist:turnover ratio (1.4:1) and minutes played (37.6). Budinger has finished in double figures 28 times this year, including 14 20-point games.
Last week, both Hill and Budinger earned first-team all-Pac-10 honors and were selected all-District IX selection by the USBWA. Additionally, Hill was among 24 players on the final ballot for the John R. Wooden Award.
Arizona (19-13, 9-9 Pac-10) will next be in action on Friday, March 20, vs. Utah in the NCAA Tournament's Midwest Region first-round game. Tip-off from Miami, Fla., is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. EDT and will be televised by CBS-TV.
