May 20, 2009
NEW YORK--Arizona junior Colin Baxter has been named to the spring Watch List for the 2009 Rimington Trophy awarded annually to the nation's top college football center.
Baxter, who started the UA's final nine games at the position after starting his redshirt freshman season and the first four games of 2008 at guard, earned honorable mention All-Pac-10 honors at the spot.
He joins 43 other top players from around the country on the list for the award, which was established in 2000 in honor of former Nebrasa star Dave Rimington. He was the only two-time winner of the Outland Trophy (1981 and 1982), and considered by many among the best college linemen of all time.
The winner of the award is selected by determining the consensus All-American center from four of the nation's top All-America squads - the American Football Coaches (AFCA), the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA), The Sporting News and the Walter Camp Foundation. The Rimington Trophy Committee makes the final determination.
Baxter is expected to anchor UA's offensive front the thick of things in 2009, joined most likely by seniors Adam Grant at right tackle, Mike Diaz at left guard or tackle and several younger faces in the mix at right guard and the remaining hole on the left side.
