PASADENA, Calif. - In the annual Pac-10 media poll, announced today at festivities at the Rose Bowl, the Arizona Wildcats were picked to finish fifth overall in the conference by a collection of reporters who regularly cover the league.

Arizona, which received 222 total votes, also nabbed two first-places votes.  Oregon is the preseason favorite, garnering 314 votes followed by USC in second with 311 nods, Oregon State with 262, Stanford with 233 and the Wildcats rounding out the top five.

The tally was the second-closest polling in league history and features seven schools receiving at least one first-place votes.

While being in the top half of the poll is nice, the Wildcats undoubtedly have their eyes set on a much bigger prize.  It's always worth pointing out that these polls aren't exactly scientific.  Last season the Cats were slated to finish eighth in the Conference and placed second overall when it was all said and done.

The poll however has selected the conference champion correct 26 of the previous 49 seasons including nine of the last 10.

Here is the predicted order of finish, with the number of first-place votes in parentheses and total voting point following that.  Points were awarded based on 10 points for a first-place vote, nine for second an so on.

1. Oregon (15) 314
2. USC (12) 311
3. Oregon State (3) 262
4. Stanford (1) 233
5. Arizona (2) 222
6. Washington (1) 209
7. Cal 175
8. UCLA (1) 134
9. Arizona State 81
10. Washington State 39.
