Official USTFCCCA Release

TUCSON - University of Arizona cross country student-athletes Megan Meyer and Elvin Kibet earned 2010 Division I All-Academic honors Tuesday as announced by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Meyer, a sophomore, and Kibet, a freshman, earned the distinction by posting a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or more and finishing in the top 10 percent of the finishers at the NCAA West Regional Championships in Eugene, Ore., last November.  Kibet was 12th while Meyer finished 16th overall to help the women to a fourth place finish.

For Meyer, this is the second consecutive USTFCCCA All-Academic nod, earning the same for the outdoor track and field season as a freshman last year.  Meyer is majoring in nutritional sciences with a minor in chemistry while Kibet remains undecided.

Both Meyer and Kibet were top-five Arizona runners for the entirety of the season, never failing to score a point for the team.  The two helped Arizona to its best finish at the NCAA Cross Country Championships since 2001 by finishing 11th this year in Terre Haute, Ind., - tops among all Pac-10 programs.

Meyer and Kibet were two student-athletes out of 99 selected by the USTFCCCA on Tuesday representing 62 institutions.
