WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Senior Andres Carrasco was named to the Pacific-10 All-Academic honorable team announced today by Commissioner Larry Scott.
Carrasco earned honorable mention honors for the second straight year for his dedication in the classroom and his third Pac-10 All-Academic honor as a Wildcat. He earned Second Team Pac-10 honors as a sophomore. Carrasco graduated in May with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication and finished with a GPA of 3.02. He is currently a tennis coach in Greenwich, Conn. and is returning to Tucson in September.
Carrasco, a native of Cabrils, Barcelona, Spain compiled a 14-10 overall singles record as a senior. He primarily competed in positions No. 1 (6-4) and No. 2 (3-2). Carrasco started the preseason ranked No. 16 in the Southwest Regional rankings and entered the ITA single's rankings the week of March 1 at No. 107 and stayed consistently in the rankings throughout the season. In the final ITA single's rankings, Carrasco finished ranked at No. 99 and No. 14 in the Southwest Regional single's rankings.
In his four years as a Wildcat, Carrasco tallied a 68-40 singles record, which is second in most singles wins in Arizona history since 1988. In doubles he competed in 14 matches compiling an overall 6-8 record.
This is Carrasco's third accolade of the season. He recently was the receipt for the ITA/Rafael Osuna Sportsmanship Award for the Southwest region. He also earned Pac-10 All-Conference Honorable Mention honors for the second straight year.
To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or significant contributor.
