THINK ARIZONA - USC SPECIAL PROMOTION
Last weekend was a good one for Arizona Athletics. The great victory in football, an incredible McDonald's Red-Blue game, a thrilling win for volleyball on Sunday in front of a season-record crowd, and a strong showing by other sports as well. We talk all the time about the difference each of us make by being at our events and cheering our teams to victory, Saturday and Sunday were good examples of that impact. Enthusiastic crowds can influence our teams' performances and a strong-loud atmosphere makes an impression on the recruits who attend our events.
This Saturday is another opportunity for Arizona football to move forward under the leadership of Coach Rodriguez. Our team is playing with the "Hard Edge" in all three phases of the game that Coach Rodriguez is instilling into our program. It is an exciting brand of football that will lead to great accomplishments by our team and for our university, community and state.
We have decided to adjust the Red Mini-Plan ticket package that we had been offering for Washington and USC to a one-game plan for USC. THE COLORS GAME
Thanks to all who attended our McDonald's Red-Blue men's basketball game held Sunday, and made it a sellout. What a show of support, and understandable considering the team Coach Sean Miller has put together along with the return of heroes from the Final Four team of 1987-88. An early-arriving crowd helped our 11 a.m. volleyball game turn into a high-intensity victory, the UA's wheelchair basketball team had some exhibition play, there was a dunk contest, Rich Rodriguez addressed the crowd regarding his team's home stretch and, of course, the Red-Blue game had its moments in introducing the 2012-13 Cats. Good things are happening across many fronts and this McKale Center moment in time helped showcase the progress. Bear Down!

THE DEPUTY RECEIVES ACCLAIM
This Friday one of our own, Deputy Director of Athletics Rocky LaRose, will be accorded a special honor by a local organization. I don't want to step on the group's announcement, but it will serve to underscore the many years of determined, insightful and special service that Rocky has provided not only the University of Arizona, but our conference and many national levels of intercollegiate athletics. Hers is a remarkable career that has produced numerous citations, and no doubt will garner more. She's helped make women's - and men's - athletics at the University of Arizona relevant in many ways.
SELECT-A-SEAT FOR MEN'S BASKETBALL
Season ticket orders are really picking up as the men's basketball season approaches. We held a select-a-seat at Sunday's McDonald's Red-Blue game, which was very successful. Many season tickets and mini-plans were sold before, during and after the scrimmage. If you are thinking about getting season tickets for this highly anticipated season give us a call now. A limited amount of season tickets remain and the best remaining seat locations are moving fast. Call the McKale Ticket Office at 520-621-CATS to set up a time to have one of our sales team reps show you some options inside the arena.
Mini-Plans, Holiday Packs and single-game tickets are also now on sale. The first exhibition game is a week from tonight on Halloween vs. Humboldt State. We'll have some tricks and treats at McKale, so make sure to have the kids come in costume. "Opening day," the first regular-season home game is November 11 vs. Charleston Southern. PERSEVERANCE PERSONIFIED
We spend more than a few moments helping our student-athletes understand and face the many challenges they'll endure in their educational and athletic pursuits at the University. It's our responsibility. Early next week we're bringing someone who embodies a wide spectrum of self-awareness to speak to our athletes and coaches. Haley Scott DeMaria, a former Notre Dame student-athlete whose parents are UA alums, has a true story of hope, grit and gumption. The gatherings are part of our C.A.T.S. Life Skills program.
HISPANIC HERITAGE DAY
As part of the University of Arizona's celebration of Hispanic Heritage month, the Athletics Department has partnered with KVOA-TV, AZ Lotus Corporation, Tucson and Sunnyside Unified School Districts, the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the UA Hispanic Alumni to promote the Hispanic culture and provide an opportunity for young people to come to the University of Arizona campus. At halftime, President Hart and honorary captain Head Coach Andy Lopez will join me in honoring this year's Hispanic Heritage art contest winners. In addition, the Pride of Arizona has been working with local Mariachi and Folklorico groups for a special halftime performance. A-CLUB LETTERWINNERS UPDATE
Arizona Sports Hall of Fame Member and wrestling letterwinner Albert Sye ('71-'74), earned his degree in Social Studies and moved on to become a teacher, principal, and a high school wrestling coach after he graduated from Arizona. As a student-athlete athlete Al was 58-9 in wrestling competitions, WAC Champion in 1972 & 1973, two-time All-American and wrestled for Team USA in 1975. Besides athletic accomplishments Al also will be publishing his first book, The Reversal; written as his inspirational story on how he drastically worked hard to positively change his life. Al currently serves on both the Pima County Foster Care Board, and on our very own A-Club Advisory Committee.
He is very appreciative of the University of Arizona, "Arizona gave me a valuable education, allowed me to use my athletic talent to get a scholarship, and gave me the experience and wrestling skills needed to gain national recognition for my talents". Al you are a true inspiration, keep pursuing your dreams and thank you for using your gifts to help others...Bear Down!
