Anderson Named to Palmer Cup Coaching Staff

Dec. 5, 2012

TUCSON, Ariz. - University of Arizona men's golf coach Jim Anderson has been named to the coaching staff of the 2013 United States Palmer Cup team.

Anderson, in his first year as the Arizona head coach, will serve as an assistant coach in the Ryder Cup-style event featuring collegiate players from the United States against those from Europe. Alabama's Jay Seawell will serve as the U.S. head coach.

The 2013 Palmer Cup will be contested, June 7-9, at the Wilmington, Del., Country Club's South Course, a par-71, 7,334-yard layout.

Anderson earned a spot on the staff as the recipient of the 2012 Jan Strickland Award presented by TaylorMade-adidas Golf, which is given to the nation's top assistant coach. He won the award while at Texas A&M last year.

"Representing college golf and the United States in the Palmer Cup is a very special honor," said Anderson. "I have coached a few Palmer Cup players previously and I know the players are equally honored to participate in this prestigious event. It is great showcase for college golf's best players."

The U.S. leads the all-time series 8-7-1, but the European side rallied to win the 2012 Palmer Cup, 13.5-10.5. Anderson certainly hopes to be on the winning side this summer.

"Teaming up with Coach Seawell will be a learning experience for me personally, and I know our team will be fired up to get the Palmer Cup back to the United States." he said.
