Meet Results
TUCSON - Volunteer assistant coaches Jill Camarena-Williams, Boaz Lalang and Bernard Lagat competed in the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Istanbul, Turkey this weekend.
Lagat successfully defended his title and won the gold medal in the 3,000-meter race, clocking a time of 7:41.44. Lagat, the U.S. captain, won his third 3,000-meter world indoor title on Sunday. Augustine Kiprono Choge of Kenya earned a silver medal with a time of 7:41.77. Edwin Cheruiyot Soi of Kenya, who was the world leader heading into the event, took the bronze medal with a time of 7:41.78.
Camarena-Williams came in fourth place in the shot put, her best toss was 63-9.5 (19.44m). Valerie Adams of New Zealand won with a throw of 67-4.75 (20.54m). Nadzeya Ostapchuk of Belarus earned a silver medal, throwing 67-0 (20.42m). Michelle Carter of the U.S. took the bronze medal with a toss of 64-3 (19.58m).
Lalang, the older brother of NCAA Champion Lawi Lalang, represented Kenya in the 800-meter race. In the preliminary round, Lalang clocked a time of 1:49.50, qualifying for the semifinals. He ran 1:49.31 in the semifinals but did not qualify for the final.
