TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Arizona men's golf team hosts the National Invitational Tournament, March 16-17, at Omni Tucson National Golf Club. It is Arizona's second home tournament of the season.
The 2012 National Invitational Tournament is a 54-hole event, which will be contested at Omni Tucson National Golf Club, a par 72, 7,094-yard layout. Thirty-six holes will be played on Friday, March 16 with continuous play scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. MST. The final 18 holes will start at 8 a.m. on Saturday, March 17.
Five of the teams in the field of 12 currently are ranked in the top 50 places of the current Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index, which includes (ranking): Army, BYU, Hawaii, Memphis (46), Northern Colorado, Northern Iowa, San Diego State (14), SMU (40), UNLV (11), UTEP, Wyoming, and host Arizona (47).
In the event's nine-year history, Arizona has won the event once (2003) and finished as the runner-up two times (2004 and 2009). In that same span, Jonathan Khan is the lone Wildcat to claim individual medalist honors, accomplishing the feat in 2011.
