OMAHA, Neb. - The Arizona baseball team will take on two-time defending national champion South Carolina in the best-of-three championship series to begin here on Sunday at 7 p.m. CDT at TD Ameritrade Park. The series continues on Monday night at 7 p.m. with an if-necessary game slated for Tuesday at 7 p.m.

South Carolina staved off elimination for the third straight game by defeating Southeastern Conference rival Arkansas, 3-2, on Friday evening. The Gamecocks won their first national titles in the 2010 and 2011 seasons, respectively.

Arizona, which has won three national championsips, and South Carolina have never met on the diamond. The Wildcats will be the designated home team on Sunday, before the teams switch on Monday. South Carolina won a coin toss late Friday night and would be the home team again if a third and deciding game is needed.

The Wildcats are scheduled to send right-hander Konner Wade to the mound in the opener. The Gamecocks have yet to announce a starter.

Each game of the series will be televised on ESPN or ESPN2, and online at ESPN3. Mike Patrick will call the play-by-play action of each game with analysts Kyle Peterson and Orel Hershiser. Jenn Brown and Jessica Mendoza will report from the field.

Both teams are slated to practice at TD Ameritrade Park on Saturday. A joint press conference with the head coach and two student-athletes from each school will begin on site at 11 a.m. CDT.
