Brigetta Barrett is set to be honored on Tuesday at the Arizona Diamondbacks baseball game. Barrett, a 2012 Olympic Games silver medalist, will be recognized by the Diamondbacks before the first pitch and then she will sing the national anthem. The Diamondbacks will host the Los Angeles Dodgers at Chase Field; the game is scheduled to start at 6:40 p.m. MST.
Barrett won the silver medal at the London Olympic Games with a personal-best clearance of 6-8, the best jump ever by a collegiate athlete in the women's high jump. Her mark broke the school record and stands as the best jump in Pac-10/12 history. (Since it did not take place during the collegiate season, it does not officially count as the collegiate record.) Barrett is the first track and field athlete from Arizona to medal in the Olympics since Michael Bates and Sandra Farmer-Patrick in 1992. Barrett is the first U.S. athlete to medal in the women's high jump since Louise Ritter in 1988.
