He was an outstanding back (defenseman) and leader on three heralded U of A polo teams, two of which won Southwest Intercollegiate Championship titles and were invited to play in the National Intercollegiate Polo Championships in Boston, Massachusetts in 1940. In 1940-1941, he was team captain and All American, having evolved into a prolific scorer whose 126 goals in 36 games were a new U of A record. Following military service in World War II he quickly regained regional and national recognition as a devastating scorer in major club polo, leading his teams to the 1951 Fort Bliss, Texas 100th Anniversary Tourney consolation title, the 1965 National Sherman Memorial runner-up title, the 1967 National Sherman Memorial Championship, and the 1972 National Eight-Goal Championship.
