 Dick Griesser was part of a productive pipeline of Phoenix baseball players recruited to the UA by Frank Sancet in the 1950's, part of a wonderful tradition that enabled the Wildcats to play in the College World Series five times from 1954- 1959. In 1955, Dick dropped out of ROTC and was immediately drafted and sent to Korea. While there, Dick was selected to play on the US Army South Korea Military Command All-Star Baseball Team. The Australian Olympic Committee requested the US Olympic Committee play a demonstration game during the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne. The US Olympic Committee requested the US Military Services' assistance in formulating a team and after numerous tryouts; Dick became a member of that team. After the '56 Olympics, Dick returned to Arizona and gained another year of eligibility. He batted .377 and led the Wildcats to the College World Series. That year he was named first team All- America as an outfielder. After graduation, Dick was hired to be a coach and a teacher at Flowing Wells High School where he stayed in various capacities for the next thirty years. He retired in 1988.
