  • TUCSON, Ariz.-Eight consecutive Wildcats reached base in a six-run third inning as Arizona completed a three-game sweep of No. 15 Tulane with an 8-5 win in Tucson Sunday afternoon.

With the sweep, the Cats improved to 13-8 with the win, while the Green Wave fell to 5-6. It marked the first time Tulane has been swept in a three-game series since falling to Indiana on Feb. 28-March 2, 1997.

Trailing 2-1, Arizona scored six runs in the third on six singles and two walks. Junior left fielder Ryan O'Donnell drove in two with a single, and Ben Diggins, Erik Torres, Chris Cunningham and Mike Meyer followed with run-scoring singles of their own.

Diggins, a sophomore designated hitter, reached base in all four plate appearances, driving in a pair of runs. For the series, he went 6-for-7 at the plate and collected seven RBI. He reached base in all but one of his 10 plate appearances.

Senior left-hander Rob Shabansky (1-0), coming off of Tommy John surgery, earned his first victory in two years, working three innings and striking out a pair of batters. Senior southpaw Tony Milo picked up his second save, allowing three runs on five hits over six innings. Senior right-hander Dan O'Gara (0-2) allowed seven runs on eight hits to take the loss for the Green Wave.

For Tulane, junior first baseman Steve Shirley hit a three-run homer, his first of the season.

Arizona returns to action next Friday, March 3, when the Cats travel to Tempe to open a non-conference series with Arizona State.
