TUCSON, Ariz.- Senior center fielder Troy Gingrich had two of Arizona's
school-record-tying five triples as the 19th-ranked Wildcats completed a
three-game sweep of New Mexico with a 6-4 victory here Saturday afternoon.
The Cats improved to 7-4 with their 11th consecutive win over the Lobos,
while New Mexico fell to 3-3.
Gingrich tripled in each of his first two at-bats, while junior third
baseman Erik Torres, junior first baseman Ernie Durazo and sophomore
catcher Chris Cunningham also tripled. Durazo also homered, going deep for
the second straight game.
Sophomore lefty Brian Pemble (2-0) set career highs in innings pitched
(6.1) and strike outs (7) in earning the victory. Senior southpaw Tony Milo
picked up his second save with 2.1 innings of one-hit pitching. Milo has
not allowed an earned in 11.2 innings of relief work this season.
Junior left-hander Brandon Well (0-1) gave up four runs in 4.0 innings of
work to take the loss for the Lobos. Senior designated hitter Jake Little
led UNM at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double and a run batted in.
Arizona will play host to its annual All-Pro Alumni Game Sunday at 1 p.m.
Philadelphia Phillies right-hander Curt Schilling is the guest manager of
the alumni squad. The Cats return to regular-season action on Friday, Feb.
11, when they take on Nevada at 3 p.m. at Sancet Field.
