General: A good all-around athlete who has worked extremely hard

at Tucson's Salpointe Catholic High School... Fifth year in the program
after redshirting the 1997-98 season... Will go after the fourth ring of
his career this year, after getting an NCAA Championship ring in 1996-97
and two Pac-10 title rings in 1997-98 and 1999-00... Back-up point guard...
During his five years with the Wildcats, he has been on team that combined
for a 131-24 record... Throughout his career, he has drawn the assignment
of guarding the likes of National Player of the Year and All-American Jason
Terry, National Freshmen of the Year Mike Bibby & Jason Gardner and
All-American Miles Simon each day in practice, thus helping improve his
game... Grew up as an Arizona fan and was a ballboy for the Wildcats for
four years... One of three members of this year's team who were on the
1996-97 NCAA Championship squad... Walked on the program prior to that
season.
1999-00 (Junior): Played in the most games during his career
(16) and started once... In the only start of his career, played nine minutes
at home against Washington and did not commit a turnover... Started at
the point in place of Jason Gardner... He scored in two games, netting
three points against Nebraska in the Las Vegas Showdown and two at Arizona
State... In that win over the Cornhuskers, he hit his only three-point
attempt of the year while pulling down two rebounds and a steal... Played
a season and a career-high 13 minutes against IUPUI... Missed the Washington
and Washington State road games due to a sprained medial collateral ligament
in his right knee... Suffered the injury against Oregon State on Feb. 5.
1998-99 (Sophomore): Scored a career high six points against
UC-Irvine, although teammate and roommie Justin Wessel is quick to point
out that Ash bettered that outing with eight points in the team's annual
charity wheelchair game last April... Made his first career three-pointer
in UCI game and was 3-of-4 from the free throw line... Came in and played
what was then a career-high six minutes at Brigham Young and missed his
only field goal attempt... Played nine minutes in the win over Washington
State and hit a free throw... Against Oregon State in Tucson, he was 3-of-4
from the free throw line in one minute of play... Mary Roby Academic Achievement
award winner in the spring semester (honor for Arizona student athletes
who maintain a 3.0 GPA or better for two calendar semesters).
1997-98: Redshirt season.
1996-97 (Freshman): Earned a spot on the team and saw action
in nine games, playing a total of 21 minutes... Part of the credit for
Arizona's national championship went to him and the other members of the
UA scout team who understood their roles in practice situation... Scored
his first collegiate point on a free throw versus Robert Morris... Added
two rebounds as well... First and only field goal was in the win over Oregon
State in Tucson... Scored two points in that game and received the most
playing time of the season - five minutes... First career steal against
Washington State in Tucson... Played three minutes against Jackson State
and recorded his first assist.

at the time.
