Arizona: RS... Expected to provide depth in the Wildcat secondary entering 2002 fall camp... Redshirted in 2001 and worked with the defensive scout team... A big defensive back who has position flexibility... Kafentzis was one of Arizona’s earliest commitments, committing in November 2000… His father, Mark, played for then Hawaii coach Dick Tomey in the early 1980s (and later in the NFL), and Kafentzis made his commitment in part because of that connection… He’s an outstanding student and was one of the state’s highly regarded recruits…

High School: Richland High School, Richland, Wash., 2001… Three-year letterman for coach Lonnie Pierson… A powerful figure at safety for a 1999 state championship team, Kafentzis’ athletic ability also has seen him play quarterback, fullback and wide receiver, plus basketball and baseball… Earned two letters in basketball at guard and one letter in baseball in the outfield, in addition to a letter in track… He was the first freshman to play varsity at Richland High, according to coach Pierson... A two-time all-state 4A pick… MVP of the state championship game as a junior… Team captain as a junior and senior… Earned PrepStar and Prep Football Report all-region honors and was a Dirty Dozen selection in the Tri-Cities area… Selected to the Tacoma News-Tribune Western 100… Academic accomplishments included Honor Roll, Spanish Elite Fleet and Occupational Education Elite Fleet…
