Williams brings some Western ties to the staff, having prepped and coached in the greater Los Angeles area and played college ball at Colorado State.

Williams joins Stoops' first UA staff after a year as receivers coach at the University of South Carolina under coach Lou Holtz.

He spent six seasons as receivers coach with the National Football League's Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 1996 to 2001, tutoring standout performers such as Keyshawn Johnson, Reidel Anthony and Jacquez Green. Johnson was chosen to play in three Pro Bowls while Williams was his position coach.

In 2000 and 2001, the Tampa Bay offense set serveral club offensive records and during his tenure the team advanced to the playoffs four times.

Williams was wide receivers coach at Miami for three years before his NFL stint, two under Dennis Erickson and one under Butch Davis. In 1993 and 1994, Chris T. Jones led the Hurricanes both years and had a total of 90 catches for 1,462 yards.

The 1993 'Canes (9-3) fell victim to Arizona in the 1994 Fiesta Bowl, 29-0, with Jones as the only bright spot for Miami with six catches for 98 yards. The 1994 Miami squad was 10-2 and played Nebraska in the Orange Bowl. Williams worked with offensive coordinator Larry Coker, the current Hurricanes head coach.

Williams also has previous coaching experience at Minnesota, Texas Christian, New Mexico State and Long Beach City College, and played two years of football as a defensive back at Colorado State. He earned a bachelor's degree from CSU in 1982.
