Arizona: As the No. 5 runner for the 2001 cross country team, Bates' top finish helped win the Murray Keatinge Invitational with a 7th-place finish (18:00.7)... Other top finishes include 21st (22:00.8) at the Pac-10 Championships where the team took 2nd and 33rd (22:33.9) at the NCAA West Regional… Finished the season strong at the National Championships where she place 4th on the team, 77th overall, with a time of 21:55… Found her niche in the longer distances during the 2001 track and field season… Ran the team's second-best 10,000-meter time of the year, 35:35.72, at the Mt. SAC Relays… Also had a 5000-meter best of 17:19.90 during the season at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational… Finished ninth in the 10,000m at the Pac-10 Championships, running 36:35.74… Bates was a key contributor to the 2000 cross country team, and is expected to do the same on the track this year...
