Lexe Selman, a sophomore midfielder for the University of Arizona Wildcats soccer team has scored one goal on the year and dished out three assists as well.
Q: How much of an honor is it for you to be a member of SAAC and can you describe what that entails?
A: Yeah, it’s a big honor. I love being able to represent our team, and what I do is I go to meetings with other representatives of sports with Greg Bryne and Erika Barnes and we just talk about how to make the student-athlete experience better.
Q: What does SAAC stand for again?
A: Student Athlete Advisory Committee.
Q: Being from Utah, how has the weather adjustment been for you coming to Arizona?
A: The summers are a big adjustment, it’s really hot here, but I get used to it and it’s not too bad. Mostly when I go home is when it’s the biggest transition back.
Q: Did you ski or snowboard or do anything with the snow, any of that? Do you miss it?
A: Yeah, my family is a big ski family, so I ski a lot. I do miss that a lot, there’s definitely no snow here.
Q: How does that work for soccer when you were back home? Do you play indoors more?
A: Yeah, from like November to March we’re at different indoor facilities a lot.
Q: If you could vacation anywhere in the world, where would you go?
A: Probably Germany or Europe, or England. Anywhere in Europe, really.
Q: Is there any reason for Germany or England?
A: England because they speak English as well, but Germany has just always seemed cool to me.
Q: What is your favorite drill to do at practice or your favorite part of practice?
A: My favorite drill is when we have four goals set up and four different grids, and then there’s two people in each grid and then one person or two can kind of go wherever and one team’s going to two goals and the other team’s going to the other two. That’s my favorite. I usually get to roam, so that’s my favorite. I get to go wherever.
Q: When your soccer career ends, what do you aspire to do?
A: I want to be a physician’s assistant, either for a cancer unit or an orthopedic surgeon.
Q: And you’re a physiology major?
A: Yes, physiology major.
