Senior forward Alexandra Doller took an uncommon path to becoming a member of the University of Arizona women’s soccer team. The forward first attended Arizona State University then transferred to Paradise Valley Community College before arriving at Arizona in the fall of 2013.
In her lone season at Paradise Valley, Doller led the team to the NJCAA Championship and was named the Most Valuable Attacker. Despite her success there, she arrived at Arizona without any expectations.
“I didn’t really have any expectations for myself,” Doller said. “I just wanted to do the best I could to help the team and thankfully I scored seven goals.”
Doller’s seven goals were the second-best total on the team for 2013. Entering the 2014 season, Doller was top scorer returning to the squad and found herself in a leadership role despite only being in her second and final year at Arizona.
“It’s always fun being a leader, having a big role on the team and having people look up to you,” Doller said. “It went by extremely fast. At first when I started college, I thought it was going by way too slow. But then, especially when I got to Arizona, it started going by way faster. I definitely wish I had more time, now that the end is finally here.”
Doller has not disappointed in her senior campaign. The forward has pumped in six goals through 14 games and also dished out two assists. She is currently ranked No. 2 in the Pac-12 in total shots (55) and shots per game (3.93) on the season. She has also scored two game-winning goals for the Wildcats.
She has been a key player on the team in her time here and been a big factor in helping the team put in two of the most successful seasons in program history.
“It always feels good to be a part of something big,” Doller said. “Coming in with the new coaches, starting over and then doing well. We’re starting a program where other people want to come join it and become one of the best in the nation. It’s been fun being a part of it. It hasn’t been easy, that’s for sure, it’s hard work, but it has been fun and it’s exciting.”
You can catch Doller and the Wildcats in action for the final two home matches of the season this weekend. Arizona takes on No. 4 Stanford on Friday at 7 p.m. MST and then faces California on Sunday at 1 p.m. MST.
