Justine Schluntz Receives Doctorate from Oxford

TUCSON – Former swimmer Justine Schluntz has received her doctorate from Oxford University where she was a Rhodes Scholar. The Engineering Sciences student’s doctoral research was focused on Computational Fluid Dynamics to analyze the fluid flow around turbines.

During her time at Arizona, Schluntz became perhaps the most accomplished student athlete in UA history in terms of academic and athletic achievements.

In 2010, Schluntz received the NCAA’s highest honor when she was named the institution’s Woman of the Year.  The award honors the female who has best demonstrated academic and athletic excellence while demonstrating extraordinary community service and leadership.

In the pool, the Albuquerque, N.M. was a five-time NCAA Champion in her four years at Arizona (2007-10). A 16-time NCAA All-American, she helped Arizona win the 2008 Division I women’s team champion.

Schluntz was the Pac-10’s Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2010 as well as a first-team Pac-10 all-academic honoree for three consecutive years at Arizona. In July of 2010, Schluntz was named ESPN The Magazine’s University division Academic All-American of the Year. She was also named the Athletics Valedictorian. Now, the Arizona Athletics Academic Champion and Distinguished Scholar can add one more academic achievement to her illustrious list, a doctorate from the one of the world’s premiere academic institutions.
