TUCSON, Ariz.--- Five-star recruit Camila Wesbrooks signed a National Letter of Intent to play tennis at the University of Arizona beginning with the 2015-16 academic year, head coach Vicky Maes announced on Thursday.
Wesbrooks becomes one of the highest regarded recruits in program history, as she’s currently placed as the 59th ranked prospect in the nation and the third best player in the state of Texas according to TennisRecruiting.net. The McKinney, Texas native was also pursued by Texas Tech, Ole Miss, William & Mary, and Illinois.
“I felt Camila was meant to be a Wildcat from the moment I met her and her family,” said Maes. “She is a great tennis player, but an even better person and her goals line up with what we look for in our student-athletes. Camila will be an excellent representative of Arizona Tennis and we know she will make an immediate impact on our program.”
Wesbrooks was placed as high as No. 33 in the nation in 2013, while she’s also been ranked as high as 349th in the world junior circuit according to the International Tennis Federation.
“‘I can’t wait to be an Arizona Wildcat, get on campus and contribute to the success of the team," Wesbrooks said.
She owns a singles a victory in the ITF Pro Circuit main draw and aims to obtain more as she’ll participate in more international events over the spring.
Wesbrooks joins a loaded Arizona team that finished the 2014 campaign as the No. 33 ranked squad in the country after clinching a spot in the NCAA Tournament for the third time in the last four seasons.
