Getting to Know JaLea Bennett
TUCSON, Ariz.--- In part two of our 13-part “Getting to Know” series, ArizonaWildcats.com sits down with freshman guard Cherice Harris.
The freshman begins her first year with the Wildcats as a true point guard, serving as the floor general for Etiwanda High School (Calif.) for three-plus seasons. She averaged 12.4 points, four assists, and 2.5 rebounds per contest during her time there, while finishing her senior season ranked as the No. 12 player in the state of California and the 28th ranked player nationally.
It’s time to meet Cherice Harris.
ArizonaWildcats.com: When was the moment was you realized you wanted to play basketball at the collegiate level?
Harris: In fifth grade.
ArizonaWildcats.com: How long have you been playing basketball?
Harris: Since I was five years old.
ArizonaWildcats.com: What would you say your role on the team is?
Harris: I’m a point guard, so when I’m on the floor I try and guide us on the offensive end.
ArizonaWildcats.com: How did you know Arizona was the school for you?
Harris: It just felt like a family atmosphere here and as soon as I felt that I knew this was the place for me.
ArizonaWildcats.com: What is your dream car?
Harris: A Chevy Camaro.
ArizonaWildcats.com: How important is it to have goals and aspirations?
Harris: Extremely important, they keep me motivated!
ArizonaWildcats.com: What do you believe it takes to be successful in life?
Harris: It takes a lot of hard work and dedication.
ArizonaWildcats.com: Do you feel you have grown as a person and player since transitioning from high school to college?
Harris: Definitely. In high school I was probably a little too lazy and in college you have to be on time with everything. College has helped me with my time management skills and that is really important in all aspects of life.
ArizonaWildcats.com: What does basketball mean to you?
Harris: It means a lot. It has been my number one sport since I was five. I’m not sure what I would do without basketball.
ArizonaWildcats.com: What is one interesting fact no one knows about you?
Harris: I love all kinds of music. My mood really decides what I listen to.
