Personal-Best Marks for UA Long Jumpers

Tucson, Ariz. – The University of Arizona Wildcat No. 22 men’s and No. 15 women’s track and field teams wrapped up the final home meet of the season after the completion of the Tucson Elite Classic on Saturday. The meet, which is strictly for throwers and jumpers, brought some of the best professional track and field athletes in the world to Arizona’s Roy P. Drachman Stadium. All marks by collegiate athletes do not count towards qualifying for the NCAA West Preliminaries.

In the women’s long jump competition, freshman Aleah Hurst posted a personal-best mark of 19-8.25 (6.00m, +0.3 wind) and took first place overall. Senior Amber Passalaqua also had a personal-best jump, going 19-4 (5.89m, -0.1 wind). In the men’s long jump, freshman Avery Mickens posted a mark of 24-10.5 (7.58m, 0.0 wind), a personal-best mark with wind-legal conditions. That jump was good for a first-place finish.

Senior Nick Ross cleared 7-4.5 (2.25m) in the men’ s high jump competition, good for first place overall. He took three strong attempts at 7-7 (2.31m), which would have been an outdoor school record. Former Wildcat All-American Edgar Rivera-Morales cleared 7-2.5 (2.20m) and finished in second place. On the women’s side, junior Shakayla McEaddy earned a runner-up finish with a clearance of 5-8.75 (1.75m). She also took attempts at a personal-best height of 5-10.75 (1.80m). Former Wildcat and six-time NCAA Champion Brigetta Barrett won the competition with a clearance of 6-0.75 (1.85m).

In the women’s shot put competition, senior Omotayo Talabi had a toss of 52-5.25 (15.98m); a season-best mark and the No. 3 throw of her career.
