Get To Know Your Ticket: Mario Nava for UNLV
When we started tossing around ideas for our marketing campaign for this year, we kept coming back to one thing, the fans. Over the last year or so, we in Arizona Athletics have really tried to focus on how important the fans are to the overall success of the football program. We eventually landed on the slogan #BeThe1, which was centered around Arizona football being 11+1 with the '11' representing the players on the field and the '1' representing the fans.
To that end, we decided to pair some of our most loyal fans with members of the football program on our collateral materials, including the actual tickets, and we wanted to give everyone some info on those fans. So, each week of a home game, we'll publish an article called 'Get to Know Your Tickets.'
For the Nevada game, Deanie Rodriguez was paired with senior offensive lineman Mickey Baucus.
Q: When did you become an Arizona Wildcats football fan and why?
A: I’ve been an Arizona fan for as long as I can remember. I was born and raised in Tucson and the Cats have always been a part of my life!
Q: Do you remember the first game you attended at Arizona Stadium? If so, what stands out from that memory?
A: I don’t remember exactly how old I was but I remember the energy in the stadium and all the fan interaction during the game. From the defense chants, to singing the fight song after touchdowns. It also helps that I’ve been a cheerleader my whole life and love cheering on the teams I love.
Q: How long have you been a season ticket holder?
A: Going on my fifth year, I used to buy single-game tickets but finally realized that buying season tickets is the way to go!
Q: What is your favorite all-time Arizona football moment and why?
A: Anytime we beat ASWho!! Especially in 2011, when we beat them in Tempe wearing all white against their all black!
Q: Who is your all-time favorite Arizona Wildcat football player and why?
A: Nick Foles. I even own his jersey. He was a great quarterback and helped bring our team back into winning seasons. He’s cute too!
Q: If you could choose the uniforms for one game, what uniform combo would it be?
A:I love our red-out games! The stadium looks awesome and it’s even better when the team gets in on it!
Q: What role do you think the fans play in a team’s success?
A: A lot! I was a cheerleader growing up and I think cheering for your team helps tremendously. Look at the New Mexico Bowl game! The true fans stayed until the end and were justly rewarded! Great game and good example of the Wildcat spirit!
Q: What is your favorite part about coming to games?
A: I love the Haka at the beginning of the games. I also love the energy in the stadium when we are winning. And the new big screen makes it that much better.
Q: Do you have any traditions/rituals that you take pride in during your gameday adventure?
A:Tailgating before every game. I love getting hyped up before games and also dressing up to show team spirit. One of my favorite ways to prepare for a game is to hit up the U of A store in the mall and get some new gear for every game.
Q:What are fans who don’t come to the games missing out on by not being at Arizona Stadium?
A:The energy! It’s so much better to see games live. The band, the cheering and the camaraderie with the other fans when we score!
Q: How do you feel about every season ticket holder having a ticket with your picture on it?
A: I’m very excited! I’m a huge Wildcat football fan and now I’m glad all the season ticket holders know it.
Q: What is your personal message to Wildcat fans who haven’t yet become season ticket holders?
A: What are you waiting for?! They are a steal and there isn’t a bad seat in the house!!!
