TUCSON, Ariz.- The Wildcats will conclude their season-long 12-match homestand and take on their third consecutive ranked opponent, as they host No. 53 Tulane, Tuesday out at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.
The match is set up to be nothing short of a classic, as Arizona (5-6) has won four of its last five matchups and Tulane (8-1) has won five contests in a row.
Not only will the match feature two of the hottest programs in the nation, but it will also showcase two of the best players in the country.
No. 58 Naoki Takeda has been Arizona’s best player all year long, as he boasts a 16-3 overall mark and perfect 9-0 record during dual play so far, going 6-0 from the No. 1 spot and 2-0 on court two. The junior has won nine straight matches going back to the fall, while he’s also earned two wins over ranked opponents this spring.
The Green Wave is led by the fifth-ranked singles player in the nation in Dominik Koepfer. The junior owns an overall record of 18-3 this year in singles play, while he’s a perfect 7-0 so far this spring.
Senior Sumeet Shinde has also been impressive for Arizona this season, as he’s currently ranked as the No. 74 singles player in the nation. He’s posted a 6-3 overall mark this spring, while going 4-1 from the No. 1 spot, including earning a win over a ranked opponent.
