TUCSON, Ariz. – The Arizona men’s golf team will travel to San Diego this weekend to play in the Lamkin Grips San Diego Classic on March 9-10. George Cunningham, Alex McMahon, Jake Kreuz, Peter Koo and Max Donohue will be competing in the team tournament, while Ricky Lee will be playing in the individual competition. The Wildcats tee off Monday at 8 a.m. MST against 13 other teams from across the nation.
The teams will be playing at the San Diego Country Club, which is a par-72, 7,033-yard course. Teams will play a total of 54 holes, 36 on Monday and 18 on Tuesday. The low four scores from each round will make up the team score.
Arizona did not compete in this tournament last year. The USC Trojans took the championship that year, and Xander Schauffele from San Diego State claimed the individual championship.
Last week in the National Invitational Tournament, Cunningham had a strong showing as he carded four under par and captured a share of second place. The freshman now has four Top 10s on the season and six Top 20 finishes, while producing 10 rounds of par or better.
McMahon, a senior, continues to hold his place in the lineup. He currently ranks second on the team to Cunningham in stroke average at 73.47. Last week, McMahon tied for 34th at the NIT at six over par.
Kreuz will be in the lineup for the second consecutive tournament. The redshirt freshman tied for 52nd at the NIT in the first team start of his career. Donohue returns to the lineup after playing as an individual at the NIT and Koo will be making his first start of the spring.
