Wildcats Send Six Players to 2015 Pac-12 Championships

TUCSON, Ariz. – After finishing up the 2015 regular season last Friday, six Wildcats were selected to compete in this year’s Pac-12 Championships starting on Thursday in Ojai, Calif.

No. 62 Lauren Marker (21-8), No. 98 Briar Preston (17-8), Devin Chypyha (15-12) and Inge Hendrilx (19-12) were chosen to compete in singles, while the 27th-ranked doubles team of Preston/Shayne Austin (12-6) and Laura Oldham/Chypyha (10-7) will compete in doubles action.

Marker is set to go against  Washington's Capucine Gregoire at 9:30 a.m. PT. The sophomore has played at the top spot in the lineup all year for the Wildcats and has defeated five of the 11 nationally ranked opponents she has faced. She also owns a record of 5-5 in conference play this year.

Preston will go up against Washington’s Elianne Douglas-Miron at 12:45 p.m PT. The senior transfer has played at the second position for Arizona all year and also has a 5-5 record against conference foes.

The Preston/Austin duo is set to take on Gabby Smith/Madison Westby of USC at 10:15 a.m. PT. The Wildcats’ top doubles tandem finished the year strong as they defeated three nationally ranked opponents towards the end of the year. They are 3-3 against all ranked opponents and 5-4 against conference foes.

Chypyha and Hendrilx will compete in this year’s invitational section. Chypyha, who has played at the fourth, fifth and sixth spots in the lineup will face Alexandra Osborne of Arizona State at 8 a.m. PT and Hendrikx, who has competed at the fifth and sixth spots will take on No. 92 Karla Popovic of California at 11 a.m. PT.

The duo of Oldham and Chypyha will also compete against Arizona State's Osborne/Sahagun at 9 a.m. PT. 

The first two rounds will be played at the Ojai Valley Athletic Club, while the final two rounds will take place at Libbey Park. Pac-12 Networks will be broadcasting the women’s singles championships live at 10 a.m. PT and will air the women’s doubles finals Saturday night at 7 p.m. PT on tape delay.
