As the manner in which website users content consumption continues to evolve, Arizona Athletics has gone through the process of redesigning the look and feel of ArizonaWildcats.com to keep it modern and fresh. In working through this redesign, we addressed the needs of those coming to our site by utilizing current usage patterns with the intent of providing a first-class user experience.
In conjunction with our partners at the Pac-12 Conference and our website provider NeuLion, we examined data from our current site and used industry trends to optimize the user experience, focusing on speed and simpler navigation, especially on mobile devices. As more and more fans access content about our sports programs and student-athletes on their phones, it’s become imperative that we provide users with the content they are looking for in a clean and easy-to-use fashion regardless of the platform from which they are accessing the site.
While many of the menu options at the top of ArizonaWildcats.com will remain consistent from the previous design, we determined that schedule information needed to be more prominently located in an effort to supply users with the information they are most commonly seeking. As one of the first college athletics websites to house schedule information in this manner, we developed a platform that would allow users to see schedule info in a pre, live and post event format, thus giving those users access to all related content in one area, including elements such as scores, live stats, broadcast information, previews, recaps, box scores and how to buy tickets.
We’ve also made an effort to optimize our page design and templates to allow for more consistent viewing across mobile, tablet and desktop. In keeping with our responsive design, we wanted to ensure the cleanliness of the site, while allowing for consistent navigation, across multiple platforms.
ArizonaWildcats.com will remain the source for news on Arizona Athletics. The site will continue to house wide-ranging stories on our 20 sports programs, enhanced schedule elements, student-athlete and coach bios, historical information, videos, photos and promotional items geared at informing the best fans in the nation.
