TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona Athletics’ Wildcat Club set a membership record for the second consecutive year after finishing 2015 with 12,900 members, Director of Athletics Greg Byrne announced on Wednesday. Through the continuation of the Wildcat Movement campaign, the Wildcat Club eclipsed last year’s record-breaking total and has more than doubled membership over the last six years.
“We are really pleased with the continued growth of the Wildcat Club,” Byrne said. “It’s a credit to all of Arizona Athletics’ wonderful supporters and to our External Operations and Wildcat Club staff. We’ve emphasized the need for growth in this area and our fans have responded by producing consecutive years with record-setting numbers.”
Since 2009, when membership was at 6,089, the Wildcat Club has steadily seen its support grow. It finished the 2010 fiscal year with 7,194 members and increased that total to 9,592 in 2011. That number again increased in 2012 to 11,220 before taking a slight dip to 10,417 in 2013. But, an increase of almost 2,500 members in the last two years has helped the Wildcat Club set Arizona’s all-time mark of 12,900 members.
“A growing Wildcat Club is important for a number of reasons,” Byrne added. “It allows us to provide the academic and athletic support needed to help our student-athletes reach the success they desire in the classroom, while competing in the Pac-12 and nationally. We can also upgrade our facilities and improve our gameday experience, which benefits both our student-athletes and fans.”
Arizona Athletics is funded primarily through self-generated revenues. The majority of these revenues come from charitable gifts, ticket sales, corporate sponsorships and television revenues. The charitable gifts come from a collective group of donors that comprise the Wildcat Club. The financial support provides scholarships, state-of-the-art facilities, equipment, team travel, and all the other tools that help our student-athletes succeed on and off the playing surface.
