Men's S&D to Compete at NCAA Championships in Atlanta

TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona men’s swimming and diving will compete at the NCAA Championships in Atlanta, Georgia. The meet starts on Wed. Mar. 23 at 3 p.m. MST and continues through Sat. Mar. 26. Nine swimmers qualified for individual events and two divers.

Senior Rafael Quintero will compete in the 1-meter, 3-meter and platform. At the NCAA Zone E Championships, Quintero finished first in the 1-meter (782.20) and platform (853.05). He also took third in the 1-meter with 799.35.

Senior Dominic Ricotta also qualified in all three diving events. He finished sixth in the 3-meter at NCAA Zone E Championships (721.90) and tenth in the platform (664.40).

Renny Richmond will compete in the 50 free, 100 free and 100 fly. At the Pac-12 Championships, the junior finished second in the 100 free (42.78) and third in the 100 fly (46.11).

Junior Tyler Fowler qualified in the 500 free, 1650 free and 400 IM. Fowler placed second in the 1,650 free at the Pac-12 Championships with a time of 14:49.44 and took second in the B final of the 500 free with 4:19.62.

Junior Thane Maudslien will compete in the 200 free, 200 back and 200 IM. At the Pac-12 Championships, Maudslien finished third in the 200 back (1:41.13) and seventh in the 200 IM (1:44.62).

Gage Crosby will swim in the 100 breast and 200 breast. The junior took fifth in the 200 breast with 1:55.73 and seventh in the 100 breast with 53.39 at the Pac-12 Championships.

Sophomore Justin Wright qualified for the 100 fly and 200 fly. At the Pac-12 Championships, Wright broke the school record in the 200 fly after finishing second with 1:41.76.

Chris Wieser will compete in the 200 free, 500 free and 1,650 free. The sophomore took third in the 1,650 free at the Texas Invitational with a time of 14:55.25 and eighth at the Pac-12 Championships in the 500 free with 4:19.96.

Sophomore Nick Thorne will swim the 200 fly, 200 IM and 400 IM. At the Pac-12 Championships, Thorne finished sixth in the 200 IM (1:44.60) and first in the B final of the 200 fly (1:44.47).

Freshman Chatham Dobbs qualified in the 50 free, 100 back and 200 back. Dobbs took second in the 100 back (45.72) and third in 50 free (19.57) at the Pac-12 Championships. He also places sixth in the 200 back with 1:43.52.

Freshman Blair Bish will compete in the 100 breast, 200 breast and 200 IM. At the Pac-12 Championships, Bish finished third in the 100 breast with 52.58 and seventh in the 200 breast with 1:56.62.

The Cats also earned two Pac-12 relay titles at the meet. The team of Dobbs, Andrew Sovero, Chad Idensohn and Richmond took first in the 200 medley relay with 1:23.74.

Richmond, Dobbs, Idensohn and J.P. Beach then earned a title in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:17.41. Arizona notched NCAA ‘A’ cuts in both events.

The NCAA Championships begin on Wed. Mar. 23 with the 800 free relay. The team of Riccardo Maestri, Parks Jones, Thane Maudslien and Nick Thorne earned an ‘A’ cut in the event at the Pac-12 Championships (6:19.31).
