Arizona continued its dominance in the 800 freestyle relay, winning a third-consecutive national title in the event. The final event of day two at the NCAA Championships saw Jean Basson, Joel Greenshields, Nicolas Nilo and Darian Townsend smash the previous meet record of 6:14.14 with a championship time of 6:12.85. Head coach Frank Busch would say, “when they are asked to swim on a relay they really know how to 'relay up.' That's when I know we (as a coaching staff) have done something right when the individual stands up and swims for the team." Indeed they did, and in the process pushed the Wildcats toward their first team national championship in the pool.
