Dave Baldwin HOF
Dave Baldwin remains one of the most accomplished strike-throwers in school history. In three seasons, he posted a 23-5 record while racking up 312 strikeouts – a tally that remains sixth-most all-time in the school records. He tossed an impressive 19 complete games as a Wildcat – another top-10 number – and his 11.13 strikeouts per nine innings is the fifth-best in program history. His sensational 1959 campaign saw him register 143 strikeouts, the seventh-best mark at Arizona, while going on to pitch a two-hitter against Fresno State at the College World Series. That season, the Wildcats finished runner up at the College World Series, matching the school’s best performance in four previous tries. Dave was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies and went on to play in 176 Major League games for several organizations.
